last night i got out of my car and the antenna didnt go down. so i guess it's busted. it had been sticking several times the last few weeks. does anyone know what could be the prob? i can hear the motor running tryin to pull it down but it doesnt move. how can i get to it to fix it and what do i need to do to fix it? does anyone make a flush mount antenna for our cars? id really like to have on instead of a big long antenna sticking up going down the road. thanks guys. please help me out.
The ribbon is likely to be worn to the point the gear in the antenna motor can't grab it. Just buy a new mast - usually under $20. I got mine from the last detail: http://tld-corvette.com/
Don't get ripped by MAD, they charge $40! The changeout is also very easy, instructions come with the antenna.
would this be what i need? and you say it's easy to change out? instructions are included? 93-96 MAST-(BLACK TIP W/ BLACK ON MAST) that's what i found on that site and its $30 sound right? and anyone else got any tips? or know wehre to get something flush mounted?
Yes, yes and yes. Sorry, the $20 I mentioned was through '92. I haven't seen any type of flush mount antenna for the vette but that in no way means it doesn't exist. Before you buy the mast, try something. Turn the radio on so as to raise the mast. Once the antenna motor stops running, turn the radio off, jump out and gently press the antenna down. If it is in fact the ribbon, it should retract the antenna so long as there is no damage to the antenna mast itself causing it to bind.
