Default What memcal for '730 swap?

I'm doing a '165 to '730 swap in my 88 Vette with manual trans and I don't know what memcal to buy ???

#16159798 is for a '91 Vette w/ 6 speed trans.

What is the difference between all the V8 730 memcals?

The one you listed sounds like a good start. The MEMCAL contains the EPROM with your programming and some other chips that have other functions - the gurus call them netres - I think on the 165 they have something to do with ESC. Might want to check on thirdgen for better info.

The differences would probably be programming changes for optional gears, transmissions, emissions requirements, etc.

Basically, pick the MEMCAL closest to your setup - ECM type/year, trans, gears.

The difference in Memcals will be the operating program details written on the stock chip.

ANHT was a '90 vette MT(?) calibration. AXCR was a '91 vette AT calibration. Those both run on 727 ECMs.

Camaro calibrations ran on 730 ECMs - such as the AUJP mask. IIRC, the vette ECMs have a pin for an engine
oil temp reading - Camaro ECMs don't. There are a few other differences as well - such as whether relays are
NO or NC - that are specific to the various masks & ECMs.

If you want to read up on them, do a search on this board - quite a few people did the 730 conversion a couple
of years ago. Search on "730" or something similar. There is also a lot of detail on the TGO prom board among
the 'sticky' posts, though that is more F-body specific.

HTH

What is the difference between the 90 and 91 memcal? Which one would be better to use in my 88?

If I'm burning a custom prom for the 730 does it really matter?

They're both 8D, so either will work. You will probably be tuning out the differences. They 91 MEMCAL 'might' have one more year of development work behind it. Do you have a 4+3 or ZF6? Is 8D compatible with the 4+3?

I have an aftermarket Richmond 6 speed.

So I should order the 91?
