I'm trying to determine the original color of my 84. I assume the color codes are normally on the option codes sticker in the driver's side storage compartment. Are they listed anywhere else as well? My exterior color codes don't seem to make sense for an 84... I believe they are 41L and 41U, but nothing I have read lists those as possibilities (except for later years). Any ideas?
The "U" and "L" stand for upper and lower, but, I'm with you. I don't find a "41" used in 1984. In 1985, it was black. Black was 19 in 1984. Good luck, and...

Re: 84 Exterior Color Codes (herzog)
Open your hood. On the passenger side hood latch support area, (car frame, not the hood itself) there should be a stamped metal plate with the original color codes.
There will usually be overspray on the inside edges of the interior panels. Try removing the trim on the sides of the B-pillar or the top trim. Also, the inside of the gill panels may have some origianl paint overspray. Remove the front air dam and see what is under there.
41L/41U are black lower/upper codes for 84. My 84 RPO label has the same codes. Seems it was repainted by a PO using 89-95 dark metallic red (68U). Took a while to determine the new code.
Thanks for all the responses! I guess it must have been black originally, which makes me now think it has been repainted at least twice. The PO told me he repainted it, but said he kept it the same color. I noticed in some of the more hidden areas it looked slightly greener which was probably a previous paint job. I couldn't find the tag by the passenger side hood latch, unless it has just worn away (there is a small bare aluminum plate directly underneath the wiper arm?). Anyhow, it seems the mystery is solved, thanks again.
