Just put a cam in and did the E-O/I-C method when the motor was cold. I had a clicking noise from the passenger side bank that was driving me nuts. I just pulled cover off and re-lashed the valves with motor running. That bank is now quiet. Some of the valves were very close to zero lash when I started my hot adjustment.
Yeah, I followed the Haynes book with 1 full turn. This should be fine. Years ago I had a 74 with a 350. that also saw many, many changes Every time I tore into her I've always adjusted with 1 full turn with roller rockers . One time one rocker was incorrect and the roller rocker and pushrod were destroyed. Tooo loose. Lots of clackety clack. unmistakeable sound.
I think you have to much preload on you lifters and it is causing your problem. One full turn past zero lash is to much, been there done that. 1/2 turn is more then enough.
Here is a prety good article on valve adjustment. While i may not agree with everything in the article the section on the the valve not closing with to much preload is correct http://www.centuryperformance.com/valveadjustment.asp
