Can anyone give me some tips on how to remove the smog pump on an 84. I have plans to do this tomorrow. Was wondering what all needs to be blocked off / removed ect.. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Remove the three bolts attaching it to the engine. Two at the alternator bracket and one underneath, into the intake manifold. Install an 85" belt, and you're done. You might want to make a brace to the two alternator bracket bolt holes you left open.
Are you installing the pulley replacement kit? If so, I just removed mine recently and have learned of ALL the smog assembly parts that we can remove, smog pump--very easy swap over (if your using the pulley replacement--do you have the catalytic converter? you can remove the 2 odd looking units on the right side of air intake--they have vacuum lines running to them, just unhook them and remove, unhook the wire harnesses to both units, and tie up under plenum entrance, at the back of plenum you will see where those vacuum lines ran--unhook them, use your imagination when removing them--so no vacuum is lost. And what I did was removed all the hoses too, that ran across front and sides to the entrance of my headers. and in the pulley replacement kit is a few rubber end caps, use 2 of them and cover the entrance to your headers or manifold. When all this stuff is removed--you will see a BIG difference in engine cleanup. Alot of stuff will be taken out and is very nice....Hey how is your states smog rules? I live in florida--thats why I took out the hoses that ran to exaust--for a permanant look....good luck!!
