After many delays, I decided to go ahead with it. I ordered McLeod aluminum flywheel and the twin disc clutch with pressure plate all balanced and ready to bolt on. Purchased ZF6 transmission over year ago and besides the bolts for aluminum FW I got everything (I think). Yesterday started with the seats and dashboard, carpet and auto shifter dismantle. I was looking there and it looks very crowded and almost impossible to install the pedal assembly. Today at work, I was thinking that I should ask on the forum before I go too far if I really need to remove dashboard. So the question is, do I need to remove dashboard or can I swing this without removing it?
I will include as much information on this as possible, and I am taking pictures every 1/2 hour just so I have reference later on and can share the pictures with ones that will do that later on.
I will be removing the engine as well and relocating my battery at the same time. I am planning on getting this done in about 2 months. This will include 1-week vacation that I will be out of town.
Re: Auto to ZF6 conversion!!!!!!!!!!! (88WHITE VETTE)
I am pretty much finished with my auto to 4+3 conversion. hehe, you are gonna have some fun! my advice on the clutch pedaln is this..get a friend to help you!! especially when you are trying to bolt the clutch pedal assy to the clutch master. you can do everything without removing the dash. you will however, have to remove the panels just below the steering column, both of them, the carpet on the drivers side, and the drivers seat so you can get in there. its a tight fit, but you can do it. look to the upper left of the brake pedal and you can see where the clutch pedal gets mounted. you have to use a hole saw to make the hole for the clutch master pushrod to the pedal assembly. also it may be worth the time to look in the archived posts ....there have been a few people who have attempted this conversion. good luck, i dont envy doing this again, in fact i wont, lol
