hey all, I have been having trouble with my security system for a little while now. The first day I had my car (sig) I set the security alarm off, and it worked normally. It has been acting up ever since. It almost appears to be Funtioning properly, yet when it does set off, the horn is about half volume, and it pulses rapidly, as opposed to the normal Honk-honk-honk....It still resets normally. Also, (which I feel is directly related somehow) the "security" light does not flash normally when the door is open and key out of ignition. I know that it should Blink, Blink, Blink.... It does however Pulse dimly and rapidly at about the same frequency as the horn would sound considering the alarm went off. (This is my reasoning on why i feel it is related) I know this is an Odd one; or at least I think, anyone ever encounter such a security "bug"? Thank you all in advance!
Jack
Check two basics first:
1. Battery. Make sure it is in good shape and connected well.
2. Grounds. If you have any grounding that is loose it will make the security behave like you are describing.

Let us know what's happening.
Skippy,
Battery Connection is O.K. Any idea where more specifically to look for ground trouble?
Thanks,
Jack

Re: Odd Security trouble (Jloshotz)
A long shot, but you might check the horn relay. If it is grounding out that can cause a similar VATS type problem. A local dealer wanted big $$ to replace the VATS in a friends 88 that had similar symptoms. I suggested replacing the horn relay first. A new $10 horn relay from NAPA solved the problem. The horn relay is mounted on the inside fender and is of the same type and make as most of the other main relays like the fuel pump relay. Swapping a known good relay in for the horn relay fixed he VATS problem, so we knew it was bad even before buying a replacement.
Mike,
Do you assume this could still be the case although the horn functions normally? Same relay with an extra set of points perhaps? Vats somewhat baffles me, not completely, just enough.... :leaving:
I didn't think vettes came out with VATs until 86  Do you have a pellet in your ign. key?

Rick,
I'm Sorry for not being clear on my description, My car is a 1988. I do have a VATS resistor in my key, but the problem is actually with the alarm system that coincides with the Door lock cylinders that sounds the horn. I've got the best of both worlds!
Thanks Rick!
