Hi all, searched the archives but I didn't see my specific problem. Air is not blowing through my upper vents. The air conditioning comes from the heater vents at the bottom and the defrost vents up top. Point me in the right direction.
Re: Air Conditioning not blowing through upper vents (ZZZASY)
My 85 has a vacuum check valve that connects to the plenum and hvac vents and cruise control. Without the check valve functioning, vacuum is not held to keep the vents open. Don't know if you have this in the 96. It's a $5 part.

Also, if by chance the underdash cover has been removed (on the passenger side of the car), there are many vacuum lines in that area. I went through the same scenario you are going through for 3 years...I accidentally saw a vacuum line pinched under the dash, from where I had a CD changer installed earlier. They had pinched the line reattaching the under dash panel. I straightened it out, and the vent work perfect now. I hope this helps...
Re: Air Conditioning not blowing through upper vents (larryfs)
My 96 does this when on AUTO. If you turn it to manual it will work like it is supposed to. I don't know why but this works for mine. Maybe the electronic unit....... Also the compressor works better on manual.
Re: Air Conditioning not blowing through upper vents (96BLKTN)
This forum is great. I have a 94 and under the passenger side cover was my broken part. Changed it out, and now have nice cool air flowing through the dash again. You definitely need it here in Texas! Thanks to all who help answer these questions! :seeya
