I was thinking about advancing my timing a couple degrees today before I go to the dragstrip today. I was reading here last night that 8 deg. btdc is a good place to start. What are the opinions on this? Will I gain anything from doing this?
Also, does anyone know how low air pressure you can use in bfgoodrich comp t/a zr's (255/50/16). I was going to try 20 psi today. I always have to launch from idle so I don't fry the tires, but I know if I can get traction from 2k rpms I can get a better time. I used to use 25 psi last year.
Often advancing the timing will provide great results. The best way *I* have found to determine the optimum number is to advance it 2* at a time and compare the 1/4 mile mph's. When It starts to slow down, back it off to the setting that gave the highest mph.
*I* don't have any experiece with those tires, but I'm guessing the 20# would be close to the bare minimum. You want to run the highest pressure, consistant with traction. More pressure equals less rolling resistance and better high speed handling.
I'll be at the track tonight, also, Good luck and...
