Default SuperRam install ?s

I am in the homestretch on the install but 2 things need attention. For starters, how in the HELL are you supposed to get the vacuum line on the fitting that's on the drivers side of the base?! It looks like there's about enough clearance between the fitting and the fuel rail to slip a sheet of paper in. Not nearly enough to fit a vacuum hose around. Any tips or suggestions?
Second, I noticed that now I can't get the butterflies to fully open with the gas pedal. There's still a little over a 1/4 inch before the stop when the pedal is on the floor. How do I fix this?
Thanks

The vacuum line of the drivers side is for the pcv. Put a longer hose with a clamp on the fitting before attaching the runners. The throttle should open fully without adjustment. Are you using the cable bracket made for the Superram or the stock cable bracket?

You have an 86, did you upgrade your hard metal vacuum lines for the PCV and the breather to the 88-91 soft rubber versions? You have to.

Yes, that's what I'm in the process of doing. But I can't for the life of me get a rubber hose to go on to the fitting on the drivers side base.

I have used the superram intake on 3 different cars, and have installed, and uninstalled it many many times.
get a rubber hose for the fitting. You cant get a clamp in there without removing the runner. Put some RTV sealer around the fitting, and then use a tightly fitting hose to push on it, and let it cure. It will not leak.
Next w/. the throttle not opening all the way... your throttle cable is not adjustable, however your transmission kick down cable is(providing you have an Auto) Do not adjust the cable to make it open full throttle, this can screw up your tranny. The kick down cable, if applicable, should have been routed to the passenger side of the distributor, installed under the plenum, but above the fuel rail tubes, and on the drivers side of the EGR valve if you still use EGR. Making the cable travel further, by it going a different route will result in not having full throttle capabilities. The Superram came provisioned for up to a 58mm TB, so there should be no clearance issues with it. My guess is you have the passing gear cable inproperly routed, or misadjusted.

This is the problem. There isn't enough clearance for the thickness of the wall of the hose to push on the fitting. The fuel rail is in the way.

I now feel your pain (all of it)! This is day three of the botched install over here in ohio- but my main culprit is not getting the special gaskets in time... Luckily most of the SR issues were tackled in a previous intake swap (crossfire to TPI) but MAN are these runners a b*itch to fool with. I did not know that there was a "special" throttle cable bracket for the superram tho, I thought everyone just re-used the stocker?

My back is killing me.

Where did you get the different bracket? I emailed LPE about this a week ago and they haven't bothered getting back to me. Kind of says something about their customer service.

I just verified that the Superram cable bracket is different than the stock tpi bracket. The bolt holes are in the same place but the position and angle of the three cable holes are different. I bought the Superram new and it came with the bracket. If yours is used, the seller should have the bracket. Good luck.

The bracket that the last owner got new from LPE where he bought the SR is identical to my stock bracket. I already tried that avenue. If LPE would answer my email that I sent a week ago, I might have the throttle problem fixed. But I still can't get the stupid vacuum hose on.

Would anyone besides LPE or EBay have the bracket?

I'd call LPE. I got my superram from www.cruzinperformance.com . You could call them or call Acell who makes the Superram.

The hose I used is 3/8" ID. You can turn the injector in place for more room.

That might be the problem. I've been trying to cram on a 15/32. The injector isn't the problem. It's the clearance between the top of the fitting and the fuel rail which sits right on top. Did the 3/8ths go on easily? I'll go buy some 3/8th's in the morning. I'm assuming it would have thinner wall thickness than the 15/32. Hopefully it will slip right on. I'll email Rich at Cruzin Performance about the bracket. Thanks

Also, use a cable tie or pressure clip on the hose end. The manifold gets hot and the hose will loosen and you'll have a vacuum leak.

I used transmission hose because it is heavier than vacuum hose and holds up to heat better.

3/8's is nowhere near big enough to go on the fitting. It will fit on the PCV, but it's way too small to go on the fitting on my manifold. I wonder if I even have the original fitting, or if someone has replaced it.

I'm done working on it for awhile. I have a headache from clenching my teeth and cursing. This has to be one of the most poorly designed pieces as far as installation goes that I have ever seen. EVERYTHING has needed some form of tweaking to get it to fit. I'm sick of it. I was planning on taking it to the track tonight, but that was 6 days ago when I started this swap. This manifold had better singlehandedly put me in the freaking 9's for as much trouble as it has been. I know I'll be happy once everything is finally together, but right now I absolutely HATE the SuperRam.

Sorry, just re-read your post. Yes, you apparently do need a different bracket. That's just one of many problems I'm trying to address right now.

Sorry your having so many problems. You could get a 3/8" fitting at Home Depot or Lowes.

Do you know that you have to cut the back ridge of the valve covers to clear the runners? Having to do this was the only unexpected problem I ran into with the Superram.

Slotting the plenum to runner bolts made installing them easy. Sears has a ratchet wrench to fit these screws.

I didn't have to clearance the valve covers. It took about 10 minutes of wiggling, but they slid into place. Everything is on, with the exception of the vacuum line and the new throttle bracket, which I should be getting sometime next week. I can drive the car with a bolt wrapped in electrical tape shoved in the hole to plug the vacuum leak. Like I said, everything with the install is complete, but I have no clearance to get the vacuum hose on. The fuel rail is a few millimeters away from touching the fitting itself. The thickness of the hose wall is too much to go between the fitting and the fuel rail. To move the fuel rail I would have to first take off the plenum. If I do that, I think the hose would be in the way when I went to try to bolt the plenum back down. All of this could have avoided if they had just moved the fitting down a 1/4 of an inch. There would have been PLENTY of room to do that. What a wonderfully designed piece of junk.

I cut the last 1/2" of my house at a 45* angle and coated the inside of it with motor oil so that it slips on much easier. :yesnod: Works great. This way instead of trying to force the whole thing on at once that angle cut is only pushing a little of the hose on at a time until it is full seated.

I'll try that tomorrow. It is 15/32 right?

Honestly I don't know. I just bought the correct 1988 vacuum hose and went with it.
