It is a ROYAL pain to change due to the location. It is just above the pre-cat on the passanger side. If it is a conv. you also have to drop the X-brace.

Re: LT1 fuel filter. (scorp508)
I didn't think it was tough at all. I don't have cats though so maybe I had more room. Pretty sure its in the same spot as the L98 the passenger side kinda on the frame. Its a big ol can you can't miss it!
Just ran a check at auto zone...the part numbers are the same for both my 91 (L98) and a friends 93 (LT1). I assume the the tools, etc. required will be the same.

Yeah, it's better if the stock cats are gone. Headers actually make it much easier to change. But it's not too bad anyway. Just get the car high enough so you've got some elbow room. And I'm sure you know how to keep from getting a gas bath! I just picked up a Napa Gold today so I'm getting ready to do it again too.
Maybe I'm just lucky? I wore rubber gloves and caught all the fuel in a catch pan, didn't get any on my skin at all. I made sure not to put my head underneath as I disconnected the fittings.
