I have a 1991 coupe and the third brakelight won't work. I replaced the bulb and it still won't work. Any suggestions? I heard that it could be the brake pedal switch. Where is this switch located? Is it easy enough to replace if that's what it is.
The stoplight switch is located at the top of the brake pedal bracket and has three wires , one switch contact for the lower brake lights and one switch contact for the upper brake light. The other switch operated by the brake pedal is for the cruise control. You can unplug the brake switch and jump 12v to the upper and lower lights and prove that it is the brake switch that is defective.
At the very top of the brake pedal, theres a switch that touches it. That switch breaks off two ways.
I had the same problem, replaced the switch and still had the problem. Ended up having to take off the B-pillar trim and get in there inside the pillar and found the connector just underneath the light that had gone bad.
