Re: WILL A BAD OPITISPARK (92) ALWAYS THROW A CODE? (SPEED750)
Mine didn't throw any codes! I spent quite a bit of time (and money) chasing down the problem (injectors, coil, coil driver - even bought a fuel pressure gauge set tp check pump pressure) - it ended up it WAS the Opti.
One thing about it, the problem NEVER gets better - only goes downhill from where you are - how many miles on your '92 - my '92 had 58K on it - also depends on how much weather you drive it in - damn non-vented system they used then with the so-called "weep holes" and deteriorating foam seals turned mine to a rusty mess inside - still amazed it ran as well as it did! :mad
Re: WILL A BAD OPITISPARK (92) ALWAYS THROW A CODE? (SPEED750)
My 95 does the same. Tried plug wires, plugs, checked FP. Didn't solve the problem. Mine has 46k miles. Never set codes. But the coolant pump is leaking through the weep hole on bottom. Since you have a non-vented opti, and it does not have a seal around the cover, I suspect any moisture from the water pump will damage the opti. A tell tale sign of the water pump leak is grime buid up in the front of the motor all around the timing cover area. I thought it was oil seepage causing the grime, but after pulling the pump off, I confirmed it was a coolant leak. Here is a good article that helped me out, the job is not that tough. http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/16758/
Re: WILL A BAD OPITISPARK (92) ALWAYS THROW A CODE? (SPEED750)
Same here no codes just started missing then it died one final painfull death. I used a spark tester to check spark and it was not good at all. the opti would still produce a spark but when i hooked the tester up and set it to the test gap :( . I believe it was carbon tracks in the cap but replaced the whole thing any way. I have since went with the DELTEC system and love it. Might want to take a look at the DELTEC, for a few bucks more, (If you buy the coils off e-bay) you will never have to wory about the high voltage side of the opti again and there is the cool factor.
