Don't bother with any of them. If the car is stock you won't see any gain. If you've done some serious mods then you'll need a custom tuned chip. All of the "off the shelf" chips are useless.

I know of a guy who did the same thing and is running 11.5s in the 1/4.

That's why I want to do it.

I was wondering what the best cam and chip were is all.

Try this guy... http://www.azzatochips.com You won't see those times with a chip alone.

Don't do a chip yet. Add an AFPR and bump fuel pressure as you do air flow mods; when you are "done" you may need larger injectors and/or a custom chip.

To run those numbers you will need to do: heads, cam, intake, exhaust, tranny, gears, DRs and such.

Check out LPE, TPIS or Comp Cams for a nice flat tappet cam and a set of ProMagnum 1.6:1 RRs.

After the air filter and cam change consider doing full exhaust mods, from LT headers through a hi-flow cat-back.

Don't change the chip until your mods require you to do so :yesnod:

I know of a guy in my state (mn) that only through in a cam and a K&N air filter and is doing 11.5s on street tires in the 1-4 mile. This is why I am looking into this here. So knowing that what can you all tell me?

Thanks by the way for your guy's help on this project.

Ok, Ok I will quit being mean now. The aftermarket chips aren't very good. Some people have actually lost HP when installing them. The best thing for you to do is mod the car with a good cam such as the LT-4 hotcam or some others and get a custom chip. Here on the forum is a great place to get a custom chip. Forum member Ski_Dwn_it did a fine job with mine at a decent price.

Welcome to the Forum Luke....you're in good hands with these guys.

11.5 in a non-ZR1 C4 with only a cam, chip, and K&N just isn't happening. Most C4s would be hard pressed to break into the high 12s with those mods.

As far as the chip goes, hold off on that for a bit. I was in your shoes only a few years ago and a chip was the first thing I bought (Hypertech Thermomaster). I really can't tell a difference with the chip in or out. According to my G-Tech, my numbers are consistenly +.05 sec. better without it. Later on in the game, look into getting a custom chip to compliment your modifications....Ski_dwn_it is highly regarded for his chip burning expertise.

If you're looking to spend a few dollars and get a little extra "kick", start with the exhaust. The majority off the aftermarket systems out there offer substantial gains over the stock exhaust.

As for getting the car to run 11.5....if that's really what you want (and you're willing to spend the $$$), these guys can tell you exactly what it takes to get there.

Knowing that, Id say the guy is either lying about his times or about his mods. Putting one of the mass produced aftermarket chips in your car will do nothing but seperate you from your money. Take it from me, been there and done that.

Then what would I have to/spenf to get it that low. For the least amount of cost possible (if it could cost less I would prefer to know that this is what I mean, cost is not a big factor for me. I just found an 88' vette for only 1,300. And I'm willing to throw AT LEAST 3,500 at the car after that.) ?

Stroke it to 383 with some goodies (Headers, Exhaust, now a chip, DR's) and 150 shot of nitrous would be the easy way to see those numbers.

What kind of "Headers, Exhaust, now a chip, DR's" should I buy and where would you recomend I buy them? How about the 383 stroker kit. I heard somewhere that you can get those kits for $500 do you know of a place I can get one cheaper?

Thanks for all your guys help again, this has been great.

Hey, by the way are there any kind of JUST corvette meets that happen at all?

$3500 should get you a decently built 383 engine with heads. Then tack on headers (~$500), exhaust (~$500), Torque converter (~$500) and you'll have a good start.

Yes, there is the Corvette Forum Cruise-In V I believe happening in a couple of weeks. Check out the National Events section - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zeroforum?id=15

BTW, just so you know, the words "Corvette" and "Cheap" do not normally get used together in the same sentence, unless "Not" is in there with it.

If you buy a $500 stroker kit, you will be in for some heartache. Get a quality, forged kit, like from Eagle, and have a competent machine shop do the work for you.

Don't be so concerned about a chip, at least not yet. There are several people on here that are running highly modified engines, some with 383s, and still using the stock chip.

Don't forget there is a LOT more than just the cost of the stroker kit. You have to account for the machine work on the block and if you make it a stroker you definitely need a custom chip. Also, your tranny may not last too long from the added torque if you don't beef it up a bit, especially if you are planning on running the car hard all the time. It is more than just a torque converter that must be changed. The unmodified trannys are usually designed to handle 20-30% over stock power (if that), but that is normally the breaking point. You don't want to run it at its design limit all the time...

What if I just supercharge the TPI motor already in there? Or do you recomend another block that is PFI?

supercharging will require a new chip. Also if the engine has high miles the internals may not be able to take it for long.

If your car is stock don't bother! I just put a hypertech in my 86 coupe and saw no
difference, I took it out after 2 weeks.
