Default Help needed with rear gears

Need a little help guys....If I have a 88 4+3 manual trans.....that means I have 307 rear gears RIGHT? and does that also mean that I have a Dana 44 rear end.....So I am lost as I am looking to change the gears to 373's or 390's or maybe 410's......So is any gear set for a Dana 44 the same? I don't want to buy the wrong thing....and what would you guys say would be the best size gears to go with....I am hoping to come accross a good used set....

You do have a Dana 44 w/3.07s assuming everything is still original. The
Corvette Dana 44 however is slightly different on one of the pinion bearing
or spline sizes. Not sure exactly what the difference is between Corvette
Dana 44s and the other Dana 44 gear sets. You'll need to get gears
specifically for the Corvette.

As far as what ratio to get I don't know what to tell you on that, but wouldn't
make too big of a jump in ratios unless you already have a feel for what
that would to for you in terms of mileage and rpms at different speeds, etc.

I was always under the impression that the majority of guys here running 410s use Viper gears, no? That would be different from Corvette-specific gears.

That could very well be. I was thinking more of the Dana 44s found in Jeeps and
trucks.

Well I I remember correctly, that a 4+3 manual had from the factory 307's and the Dana 44....I just wanted to get that part clear before I shop for gears....I have done gears in a mustang, but never a vette.....Can anyone get me clear on what I have?

As far as size...I will more than likely go with 373's as I don't think its going to make that big of a difference for me....The near future will be adding a supercharger so I want to plan ahead as I only want to do this 1 time..

Thanks guys for the help...maybe someone will chime in on this....

From what the guy fixing my rear told me, the 44 in our cars and Vipers is really a "Super 44". In that it uses 44 carrier and ring and a Dana 60 pinion.
