86 corvette, engine was running ruff if i stepped on it it fell on its face, gave me a code 32 and 34. replaced the egr valve ran great for test drive started back up and it was running ruff and backfiring went for a drive and it ran like crap then took off and ran fine, turned off restarted and went for drive ran like crap now its giving me a code 44 "Lean Exhaust Present"
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated
A bad MAF that causes the ECM to sense a lower than normal airflow will cause the system to go lean.
Try disconnecting the MAF and if the engine goes closed loop AND the lean condition is gone, replace the MAF.
If you don't have a ScanTool or Diacom, etc., you can use the ALDL SES flashes to tell if the system has gones closed loop. In closed loop, the SES will flash about once every second.
Even a small amount of water in the tank will cause a lean condition.
Faulty EGR, A.I.R., exhaust leak and low fuel pressure will cause it too.
Considering your Code 34, I suspect the MAF is giving the ECM bad airflow data.
