Late today I finished with the installation of some mods as well as replacing OEM parts. I have a 90 L98 with 44,000 miles. The mods are:
Hi-Flo Intake/Runners
24 psi Fuel Injectors
Ported/Polished Plenum
52mm Throtle Body
High Output Coil
1.6 Roller Rockers
High Flow Water Pump
OEM Parts Replaced:
Oil Switch
Oil Pressure Sending Unit
MAP
Engine Coolant Temp Sending Unit
I will admit that I finished too late today to do anything except turn the key and see what happened. Well, nothing happened other than the engine turned over. It did not try to start and acted as though it was either not geting fuel or spark. Before I waste my time, I was wondering if there is anything I should do other than crank the engine?
Mine did the same thing. What kind of coil is it? My accell coil was bad and it was new. It took me a wile to find this out because it was new and I didn't think it could have been bad. Also is the coil right for your year? You may have a vacum leak too...don't know.
I did not have much time tonight to work on the car but I did depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail and fuel squirted up. This leads me to believe the fuel pump is not the culprit. I also turned over the engine with an induction timing light (not so sure it works as it is about 20 years old) connected and it indicated a no spark condition. I will check the light tomorrow using a known operating vechicle.
Since I did install an aftermarket coil, I will put the original coil back in and see what happens. Sure would like to hear it purr.
Tonight I was able to ascertain that I have a spark at every plug by using my inductive timing light. I also checked to make sure I had #1 cylinder on the compression stroke with the rotor pointing to the #1 terminal on the distributor cap. With that being said, I think the ignition set up is correct.
I tried spraying a small amount of starting fluid into the TB to see if I could get even a cough. Nothing happened. Surely my installation of the 1.6 RR's wouldn't keep the engine from attempting to start.
I am currently at a complete loss. I have never had an engine that would not at least spudder after everything I have checked and tried. I will post my progress but all suggestions would be appreciated.
