I just got my K&N that I purchased off eBay in and installed it over the weekend. WOW - talk about easy! Anyway, I was wondering if anybody has ever done a side-by-side comparison of a cut lid vs. a non-cut lid. Sure, I know, it seems like it will allow more air in... The question is, does it?
Hey, the sound alone is worth it! I can't tell you it actually works, but I felt better driving with it and My butt-o-meter swears there was a HP increase. So, Go for it! :auto:
I think Jim (65Z01) has proved this mod to be worth about a 10th in the 1/4.
He has an L98 I have an LT1, I didn't gain a thing, me and Jim race together quite often. My biggest significant gain was .08 from putting in a clean paper air filter, the cut lid did absolutely nothing.
At one of the Cruise In's I spoke with Jim Minneker, the head of GM Powertrain, he said there is a reason for the way GM does what they do.
He wouldn't go into much detail, but he said most of these mods that make a claim of 10 HP or more are worthless.
Thanks for the answers, everybody... The car seems to feel a little stronger above 4000 RPM with the K&N vs. the old filter, but that could just be the "old" in the filter and not the K&N. All in all, I don't guess I'll be cutting the lid - especially since I am moving to CA next month, and I don't want to give the smog techs anything more to think about than they have to. Know what I mean?
