A/C does not work. HIgh and low side limit switches replaced. Rechargded, occasionally works after recharge for short time. Sometimes will work with shorting out compressor. Low side has high line pressure - 100#. Suggestions?
Low shouldn't exceed 50psi, at which point the low pressure switch should close and the compressor should turn on and the pressure should drop. At 22.5 to 25 psi, it should cycle back off. Did you swap out the Accumulator? If not, it may be plugged up or falling apart. What's the high side? If it's getting above 430 psi, it's going to shut down (and you want it to). With the low at 100, the high side may be getting up there. Did you mix R134 with R12?
Did not replace the accumulator. Did not mix the refrigerants, the system was totally empty (replaced the exchange unit), but not evacuated, refilled with R134a. You recommend replacing the accumulator then? If so I will have it evacuated and refilled. Tx for the reply.
Did you drain the oil from your system? R134A requires ester lubricant, not castor oil that is in the R12 system. Also, whenever doing a conversion, you should replace the dryer (accumulator). Discharge system, remove compressor and drain oil into a measuring cup. Whatever the amount is put twice that amount minus 10% back into the compressor. The half that is not in the compressor is held in the dryer. When you get the system put back together, have a deep cycle vacuum done (30 minute vacuum), then recharge and you should be good to go.
