Hey all, I have an EGR code being thrown, so, I'm about to take it off and give it a good cleaning and check the solenoid and vacuum.
While I have the runners and plenum off, I was thinking about porting them. Any good tips? Do I need to do any other mods to accomodate the porting? This is something that I have never done before, but I am not afraid to try.
Anyone??
EDIT
Need some info from me I'd imagine.
It's a 1988 coupe with 127,XXX, K&N, no frisbee, gutted main cat.
Just remember NOT to knife edge the runners like you see in the pictures. I've heard that causes turbulance. I dont think you really need to do any other "mods" if you dont want to. If you happen to have the tpi base off, you can siamese those too to get a bit more out of it too.
Mine was done with a dremel tool. It took 2-3 hours a week for over a month for me to do mine, but I was in no furry since I bought a spare tpi setup to do it.
Re: Porting Plenum and Upper Runners (88vettelover)
I siamesed my plenum, and just stuck rags in the runners and smoothed out the edges around the runners opening them up more. I got a little more throttle response out of her. :seeya
Re: Porting Plenum and Upper Runners (88vettelover)
I would invest in the appropriate aluminum cutting bur for an air grinder if you have a compressor. The burs can be found at my local swap meet for less than $10 in numerous shapes, and the air die grinder is under $20 at Harbor frieght. This does require an air compressor though- but it would be way faster than a dremel.
Re: Porting Plenum and Upper Runners (88vettelover)
Since you have both plenum & runners off:
-lay the lower runner tube on a block of wood and roll a medium socket inside the lower runner over the "dimple" while tapping on the socket extension. This will smooth out the dimples to open up the tubes a little.
-flair the upper runner tubes a little and port match the plenum openings to them; then round the inner plenum openings. You will need oversized upper runner gaskets or take a Dremel to open up stock gaskets.
-remove the two bumps inside the plenum input openings, reduce the center "hump" and remove material as possible from the two outer walls.
Definitely do the TB coolant bypass while it is off the plenum.
