Upgrade the brakes
I have a 96 LT1 coupe and am interested in upgrading my brakes from stock. Any suggestions on what to consider? I don't race the car at all. Just looking for a really good set of new brakes. Thanks....

J55 is a bolt-on but its a rather minimal upgrade, you should go to C5 Brakes for the money.
Just run a search on C5 Brake upgrade and youll find everything you need.

And I "think" that with the C5 brakes, you might need different rims to clear the calipers....not sure though.

The sky is really the limit with brakes - you can spend a little and go with some better pads, do a C5 brake upgrade, or go all-out and do a Baer or Wilwood "Big Brake" conversion... How much do you want to spend?

Get some agressive pads and if your not doing track events you should never need anything more then that with the J55 brakes. Gets pretty dusty but if you like to be thrown forward in the seat CarboTech pads are a great investment. About 100 bucks and your set.

I just last week-end completed an upgrade that worked out GREAT.
On E Bay I purchased a drilled and slotted new set of rotors and replaced
the pads with AutoZone PFC-Z rated. Changed to a synthetic B/F. Great
results and a few hours work. :smash:
