I have heard that the bilstein shocks are pretty good. I am looking more for a better handling car then a less bumpy ride. Are the bilstein shocks what I need or do you recommend something else? Right now I just have the stock shocks.
Re: Need some new shocks for the old 84.... (HWoods)
I don't know how many sets of monroe shocks I busted on my 84 before going to the KYB's. They were not sensi tracs, but the old monroes did not last
:withstupid:
I have a set of monroes on my 84 now (the most expensive the shop had at $25 ea, but unsure of type) and I'm not happy with them. I think they soften up the suspension travel a little too much but still do not "soften" the ride- only the handling. I won't make this mistake again, and will probably buy higher end shocks like the KYBs for handling/cornering purposes.
Let's face it, shocks alone aren't going to soften these 84's up very much!

IceDigger,
If you are interested in a complete set of Bilsteins that have less than 6000 miles on them you can email me. I went with drag shock all the way around on my 85.
These are for the 85 with the Z51 package. I bought them new.
Re: Need some new shocks for the old 84.... (IceDigger)
Ice - As you know I just installed the Bilsteins on my 84 - I like em lot. I don't do the autocross thing. Right now my 84 is my daily driver and I do an occassional 1/4 run for grins and giggles. As I understand it there are two types of Bilsteins. Super Duty (SD) and Heavy Duty (HD) as the shock guy explained to me. The stock z51 would use the SD, again as described to me. I think you would be ok with the 85's z51 shocks. Get the part number and do some research........ You may be able to save some $$$.
