Default Stepped or flat guide plates?

Who is using them, do you prefer stepped or flate guide plates? Pros and cons would be appreciated.

I've got the flat ones, they seem to work. Couldn't tell you an pros or cons either way.

The stepped type are touted as being the best because they intersect the pushrod at a high position, giving more stability.

Rocker clearance may or may not be an issue, it's just something I'd check.

My heads came with flat and I did have a set of stepped, but I didn't swap them. I figured Edelbrock knew what they were doing when they selection the guide plates for the heads.

I went with the stepped for the reason mentioned above.

It is a little harder to get my fingers in to "twirl" the push rod but not a big deal.

Whichever you go with apply a little light assembly lube to them and the push rod stems.
