Default LT1 6 Speed idle?

Those of you with 6 Speeds, what's your idle at?? Mine sits right at 1,000 RPMS, and I'm thinking that's a little high??? If so, is there a solution?? This was the same before I had the TB done, too.. Still at 1k.

My '94 idle is around 850-900. Usually the needle is just below the "tick" mark for 1000 rpm once it is warmed up.

Well, mine's nice and smooth, but it's right on the 1k line. I figured, being a 6 speed, it should be down around 6-700?? I definitely could be wrong, though!!

Not to mention, I HATE the factory tach.. It's slow, and unresponsive..

My 90 idles around 900ish. When it's real warmed up it may drop to about 800 but never really lower.

Crap I just saw this is a freakin LT1 thread, oh well I'm staying in.

Around 600-700rpm warmed up, according to Autotap. My tach seems to be fairly accurate at idle.

If you've still got a stock cam, 1000 is way too high. I believe once fully warmed up the commanded idle speed is 700 or 750. Even with my cam mine is set to idle at something like 850. Gives a nice nasty soundling lope to it. :D

If your idle is too high your IAC is probably completely closed or stuck. If it's closed and you still have the high idle it means that your throttle blades are held open too far by the minimum adjustment screw. Crank it back a little bit and let the IAC do it's job of maintaining your idle.

Well, when I swapped my TB, I noticed that the IAC valve was filthy.. Would I be jumping the gun by replacing it??

Also, my Vortex Rammer box is pretty warped, and isn't making a seal tot he shroud - I don't think that has anything to do with it though.

You might try cleaning the IAC. If memory serves it's not cheap so it would be worth trying to clean it. It's very easy to damage it though.
