Default Best position for O2

I have installed hookers long tubes and I have O2 installed right after the headers on the exhaust pipe( you could say it's the begining of y-pipe ).

Would it be better to install it on headers somewhere where all four pipes
collects into one?

There have been a few thread about this. I found a good place was about 5 inches from the collector on the outside of the header. You gonna have to use heated O2's though but they aren't that bad to install. Here are some pics.

This spot has plenty of clearance and it is easy to get to. :cheers:

What are heated O2 sensors and what difference do they make?

Okie all corvette's before 1994 (besides ZR-1's) had 1 wire O2 sensors where all they did was read the O2 temp. In 1994 they switched to a heated O2 sensor which assisted the readout by heating the sensor itself along with the exhaust gases. This helped the sensor get a correct reading to the computer. When you switch to Long Tube headers the sensor is located further away from the exhaust gases and has trouble getting hot enough causeing the car to run crappy. Trust me this happens. :lol:

You have to install the 94 and later O2 sensor and wire it up where it will heat itself so the sensor has the desired temp to give the correct reading. This isn't too difficult you just need a switched 12 volt source to go into the new O2 sensors. Tons of info can be found on this with the search engine. :cheers:

You want the O2 in the collector region. Just after the collector in the very beginning of the Y pipe is just as good. The idea is to keep it hot.

If the engine idles for too long, and the weather is cool/cold, the sensor will cool off and there isn't enough heat at the end of the primary tube to keep the sensor hot enough to work. 600 degree's comes to mind.

When you use long tube headers, you want to wire up heated O2, instead of the none heated type. This will make sure the sensor stays warm enough to stay in closed loop all the time.
If you don't, it is not the end of the world, but you may have emissions issues. (depending,...)
Reg O2,... single wire
Heated O2,... 3->4 wires.
