Took my vette out for a spin today. While I was crusing I got a lean pop and the engine stalled. This happend in the middle of an intersection so it was quite embarrassing. Tried to start the engine but the starter only clicked.
Called for help and got my car towed back home.
Got full charge on the battery, all leads attached properly and the starter still just clicks whithout cranking.
What can be wrong whith it?
Do you think that my 11.1 compression engine has something to do whith the starter giving up?
Can it be rebuilt, or am I just :beatdeadhorse: ?
Re: Starter clicks, doesent crank the engine (Sunyi)
How many amps is your battery registering? You can have 12 volts, but low amps. It is the cranking power of the battery to start it up, not the voltage.
Re: Starter clicks, doesent crank the engine (Whitvette)
I wish it were so simple, just had the battery fully charged overnight before the incident.
Even when I try to jumpstarting it, starter only clicks. :skep:
Think that rules out the battery.

Re: Starter clicks, doesent crank the engine (Sunyi)
 Sounds like the starter is bad, if it is getting full volts and amps. Doesn't sound like the Bendix drive is hung up in the flywheel teeth, but could be. Try moving the flywheel, but doesn't sound like it
There are "hi torgue" starters available to replace your standard GM unit
I believe 88 and up had them....don't know the year of your vehicle so I can't offer a definitive comment
Re: Starter clicks, doesent crank the engine (Sunyi)
Jack the car and check the positive line to the starter, make sure it is tight and clean, also check the solenoid line. Remove the negitive line from the battery and clean it well. Let us know the results.

 to say. it sounds like the starter is bad
Last check..be sure the leads to and from the starter are "clean"

I just had the same damn problem with mine. I went with a Summit High Torque starter. It goes for just under $150 BRAND NEW, not a remanufactured unit, and it is half the size and weight of the stock unit. It also turns the motor over 500% faster and better than the old big starter. My starter did the same yours is doing. Try hitting it with a hammer, and have someone trying to start it while you hit the starter. If it starts, bad starter. If you want info on my Summit starter, then I will send you the link. Let me know...

Thanks Darkman, I have allready checked that starter out. Think I am going to place the order pretty soon.
Some feedback on my current starter:
I have found what was wrong whith the starter
It was the bakelit on the solenoid (plastick piece that has all the leads skrewed on to the solenoid).
The bakelit was cracked and the solenoid spring had sprung out of the solenoid.
Bought a solenoid repair kit for 17$ and fixed the starter in 1/2 an hour
