Default heater core????

recently i started smelling antifreeze as i was driving. after a few days of not being able to find any leaks i accidentaly move the temp lever over to hot and a puff of smoke came out of the vents near the winsheild(defrost was on) and it definitly smelled like antifreeze. i am assuming that this is because the heater core is going bad, and i am wondering how difficult it is to replace. is it a diy or should i just save the headache and pay someone to do it? btw any idea what a shop would charge for it?
thanks guys

to have it done about 3.5 hours....DIY about 4.6 hours. some of the smaller bolt are hard to get to..start by removing the lower dash and work your way to the core...it not hard to do..but ackward. do a search in teck tips for details
