My 85 was doing that, I pulled the radiator and it was caked solid between the radiator and air conditioning condenser. Had it cleaned up, put in a 160 'stat and the fans hardly ever come on except in heavy traffic and even then the temp drops to 170 right away. :D :thumbs:

My 89 Iroc 350 used to over heat until I wired the fans to turn on with the key. flushed the radiator filled it with water and 2 bottles of water wetter, and ditched the thermostat. Sure the heater don't work but the car never goes over 160 even in 85 degree stop and go traffic :D
