no more #$@!^% i think it broke me down:
1. fuel pressure 45psi at streiter valve measure with gas pressure gauge.
2. fuel pump replaced anyways. I bought it why not.
3. spark good on all wires. one bit me. it hurt so i think it's good
4. car turns over starter works.
5. not in order did i mention spark bit me :D
6. fuses checked none blown
ok fuel check, spark check but still won't start. it did start for 1 second but died. couldn't get it to repeat. starts for the one second after being off for a long period of time. unknown factor.
only thing I can think of is maybe fouled plugs? but it was running then died after I stopped?
any ideas before I give up and take it to a shop??? please anything?
hold on I'm checking the secondary fuses like skateparkdave recommended. must have posted while i was kicking the car. will go test this out. will be back to update.
nope I do not have a fp2 fuse. that slot is empty. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=825690
found some old spark plugs that used to work but just old. I replaced 4 of them. only had 4 but i fugeres if i did the first four it should fire roughly.
still the fire is not burning. could all of my injectors died at the same time?
all the fuses are good?
i'm running out of ideas?
also on a side note isn't the car supose to turn over in neutral? I turns over great in park. just wondering if anything in the cuircit prevents something?
my 90 definetly has one (secodary FP fuse)...dont recon it fell out some how do ya?? And yeah I'd definetly put a test light to injectors and see if you get a pulseing light while someome turns car over ;)
Connect a low power 12v lamp across one of the injector sockets and crank the engine. The lamp should pulse while cranking showing that the ECM is pulsing the injectors. Also, with the fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve, pressurize the fuel rail and turn off the ignition. The fuel pressure should hold up, and if it drops rapidly you have one or more leaky injectors causing a too rich mixture to start. Connect your timing light to plug wire #1 and see what the timing is when the engine is being cranked. Remove the flexible horn on the MAF to ensure that air is getting into the intake. Engines need spark (and at the right time), fuel , air (and in the correct ratio) to run. You are missing one or a combination of these. Pull the spark plugs and look at the plugs and then do and record the compression on each cylinder.
jake. no the only thing i messed with that day or actually this week was the power door lock switch. I replaced them because I thought they were faulty but it turned out to be a fuse under the dash.
after I was done I had to meet up with a few friends at the pool. I started her up went about 100yds stopped for a speed bump and the engine quit. I tried to restart and the engine would only turn over. nothing else happened. while driving I did turn the a/c on but don't think that was it. I turned it off before restarting the car but it just wouldn't turn over.
i pushed the car to the side and checked all the fuses. non were blown.
so far i've:
changed the fuel pump.
checked pressure at strader valve. (pressure stays after ingnition is turned off so no leaks)
tsted power to injectors. have power
checked each plug wire for spark. and yes they do cause one bit me.
checked the plugs and they looked a bit rough but good. just in case i change the first few in the order with the old spares i kept.
i wiggled every wire in the engine comparment. (figured it can't hurt)
jumped the battery cause i tried starting it so much
i can't think of anything else?
it did almost start for a second when i got of work but it died. it made a rough then silence.
i couldn't check timing cause the light i bought at pep boy didn't work. hmm quality parts!
i think i just have to give up and take her in to the shop. don't know what else to do?
It's got to be electrical or fuel related. I suspect electrical.
My first thought when an engine just dies as the car is being driven down the road is ignition module. What's confusing me is you said you've got spark.
I'm wondering about that though. Are you sure that you are getting regular spark as the engine is being cranked? When you connect a timing light to a plug wire, it should give a regular flash as the engine cranks. Blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, etc.
Make the timing light connection and run the test as close to the spark plug as you can; that'll help verify the intergrity of the plug wires.
If you haven't replaced the bad timing light yet, you can remove one plug wire, put something conductive (like a bolt) in the hole that normally goes over the spark plug, then hold it close to something metal and crank. A nice blue/white spark should jump to the metal in regular intervals.
You can also remove the module and have it checked at O'Reilly's or AutoZone for free. That's how I found mine was bad. Cheaper than letting a dealer/shop do the same thing.
BTW, same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Driving down the road and engine suddenly cut off. Crank, crank, crank and no start; turned out to be the module had died.
