I would not draw that conclusion, IN FACT, I would say that for 95% of the setups here 58mm is more than enough.
I was actually referring to the 48mm STOCK unit... but I get what you mean. I'm in the position of trying to justify a 52mm (bored stocker) throttle body at the moment, but I just seem to read so much conflicting information on how good the stocker is vs larger units, etc....
With my heads, cam, stroker and SR setup I imagine a 52mm will pay off then. :yesnod:
I consider the calculations to be a good place to start. They would tell the story if the engine were pumping fluid instead of a gas. i.e Fluids don't compress, (w/o a phase change), gases do,... passing thru tubes, blades, obstructions, etc.
I don't consider VE's to be something you can calculate ahead of time. It usually comes into play, "as a result of". Put another way,... use a combo that works well together. The final part of this usually comes down to, "give it a try". (Just like tuning.)
Just my $.02
Jesse, I'm surprise you picked up as much as you did. i.e. I would have bet (heavy) against that mod. Good find.
