Mounting weather sensetive computer controls vital to engine performance under the hood exposed to the elements. Could just put them inside the car where they would be protected but that would cost monay and we all know what that means. BBBZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!! Idea turned down, put them inside the engine compartment.
Yeah, thats why is't called an ECM weatherpack. I personally love it..the 84 had it buried in the dash and it was a pain in the butt to get at..so I don't think they were saving money by putting it outside..in fact I think they spent some by making it weather proof and easily accessible. :yesnod:
Actually this whole post was a reply to everyone telling me how stupid I was for washing my engine bay with a hose because of all the computer parts in there. lol you just can't win.

Re: Retarded= (Scott Muharsky)
Heavy duty diesels have the ECM mounted right to the engine block. The Detroit 60 series is prone to oil leaks on that side of the engine that often obliterate the ECM and it's wiring in oil. When I have to work on one I steam clean the whole area including the ECM before I begin trouble shooting. It's never caused a no run condition or any other problems. I also clean the underhood of my LT1 with water and have never had a problem. Obviously you have to use a little discretion and common sense.
Oh yeah..you were the one who washed his OPTI..yeah they should've made it different but at least they had a recall..arent you getting it replaced for free?? Thats cool! Just try to remember..this car is a precision instrument..not a 4x4 hunting buggy..the owners manual has specific instuctions for cleaning and maintenance. If yours didn't come with manual..see if you can score one on ebay or something :yesnod: Good luck and dont let it get you down..it's a learning process.
