...take the radiator out and clean it. I did this yesterday after sitting in traffic and running all the way up to 260 degrees and the cheack gauges light coming on. Today...after the cleaning, I went into Baton Rouge to see if it was better sitting in traffic. The hottest temperature I saw was 219 degrees. I actually even dropped a few degrees a couple of times while sitting still. My outside temperature gauge read 95 degrees and the Vette was the coolest it has ever ran. The time it takes to clean the radiator is definately worth it. Here is a pic of my radiator before I cleaned it, causing the 260 degree temps.
I used a shop vac, soft bristle brush, water hose, simple green, and the smallest flat blade screw driver I had. (To straighten fins) The time it took to clean out all the debris was more that it took to take the radiator out and put it back in. I finally had to come to the realization that ALL the debris was not coming out. Forty degrees cooler now that it is clean tells me that it doesn't matter that ALL of it did not come out though.
