I did a search on the topic and found a couple of threads but really no solution.
My car is running great, but the oil pressure seems to be awfully low. At idle it's around 5psi, while driving it only gets around 20 psi. Before the install, it would get past 40 psi.
Is this common with a Superchargers (Vortech) or should I be worried?
Before you pull the motor or the pan, try a different oil pressure sensor...it may not be your problem.. but it's a cheap try.. If that doesn't work I would try an analog oil pressure gauge to make sure your factory gauge is not faulty.
The first thing to do is to use a direct pressure gauge (no sending unit) buy a cheap one anywhere k mart, pep boys.....$10 -15. On my 86 the pressure in the manual says 45-55 lbs at 2000rpm. My pressure read real low so I changed the sender with a cheap one and still read low pressure 10 - 19 lbs. then I checked it with a the direct pressure type. The pressure was 40+lbs so I went to the dealer and bought a GM sender and now my pressure reads between 30 - 55 all the time. All senders are not created =.
I have kept a close eye on it and it does appear to keep about 10 psi per 1000 rpms. However, I am going to change the oil and filter this weekend and see if there is a difference. If not, I will continue with the other steps.
