Default Repaint/Bodywork Update...

Well, thanks for the advice everyone, as to what to do if I decided to try some repairs myself, for preping my Vette for painting. Turns out a close friend of my father runs and auto-body shop, and just finished restoring/fixing/repainting a 88 Vette. I went in to talk with him, and he looked at the car, and quoted me a VERY good price on doing all of the repair, and the painting for me. So, I am going to let him do all the work!

He is going to chemically treat the old paint, fix all of the chips/cracks, use a sealer, then 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of base, and 2 coats of clear, then bake the car for an hour. I have seen the work he does, and it is stellar, so I think I will be getting a good job done.

Now the question is, what do I do to protect this paint. I am assuming I shouldn't be using any products on it for a couple months, to let the paint fully cure.. but then what? Is Zaino the way to go?? Or is there something else that will protect the paint better? It will be an outside car for a couple of years yet, so I need something tough. Any ideas would be appreciated!!

-Mark

While discussing wet sanding with him also ask about use of sealants & wax on the new paint and follow his recommendations as to time and type of product that can be used.

Later you can chose from any of the fine protectants on the market.

I would ask him the question. He is the one that is going to warrenty the work if it fails. Not a forum member. For the paint that I used you had to stay away from waxing it for 3 months.

Don't be in a hurry to polish and wax. Three months, though, would be plenty with all the clears I've used.
