Probabky jus drop the exhaust, then losed the bolts that hold the drive shaft in. Usually pretty easy. Unless you exhaust bolts are rusted and fused together.
Here's the official sequence from my '88 GM Shop Manual:
-remove the exhaust system as an assembly
-support the transmission
-remove the drive line support beam
-mark the relation ship of the drive shaft to companion flange at each end
-disconnect the rear U-joint by removing trunion bearing straps
-slide slip yoke from transmission and remove the drive shaft
From there it's pretty standard to replace the U-joints.
thats more like it..thanx...in any other car it would be a 20 minute job..it sounds like its gonna be about 4 hours cinsiderin the rusty bolts and torch work probaly...
oh boy fun fun fun
Also, I was able to to remove mine without pulling the support beam. I removed the 2 bolts on the tranny end and loosened the 2 at the rear end. There was enough slack between the driveline, c-beam and tunnel to get it out.
I got mine out with just taking out the rear hangers and letting the exhaust hang (with a jack supporting it). Then slide out the driveshaft. It was harder to put back.
i remember briefly lookin at it and thinking if i move the exhaust i should be able to get it...thanx for all the ideas...im gonna drop the hangers first to see iif theres enough room..if not ill rape the the exhaust...but first ill look at the two bolts on the rear and tranny...if i loosen those does the c-beam still gotta come out?AND is tranny fluid gonna **** out?4+3 who knows!!!!
(2) 18mm bolts in the front and (2) 21mm bolts in the rear i believe... box end wrench resting securely against body on top... breaker bar below followed by ratchet... sounds good on paper LOL! If you can afford the custom fitted bolt kit Van Steel Corvette Suspension Specialists sells them for $99 each (total cost = $198) That's it!
