I'm installing my Walbro intank pump, and I didn't pay attention when I ripped the old filter/sock off of the old pump. The directions say to install the new filter on the new pump facing the same way as the old one. OOPS! The filter is rectangular, and the connection is offset to one side. Does anyone know which way the long side faces? I think it was toward the front of the car, but you only get one chance when you press the ring on. Help please!
This the info I used to install my sock, it's from another post
QUOTE:
Sock should lie in plastic sump; sump is designed to keep fuel contained in plastic sump - at sock/pump pickup during hard cornering/fuel slosh. This way the fuel pump does not suck air at low fuel level/hard cornering conditions.
Plastic sump runs front-back not left-right. Run it left-right & sock gets pinched on top of plastic sump tray. Orient sock fore-aft it will lay perfectly into sump.
Had to mess with it to get orientation just right, from memory ended up with sock oriented long side forward, may run long side back, but definitely should fit into plastic sump. Had tank drained, just took pump/sock assembly in-out / measured offsets until it fit just right. When right it will drop into the plastic sump w/ sock running front-back
Also hand cleaned inside of tank while empty & did not reuse the original fuel pulse damper.
