Well its all a matter of how much faster you really want to go. I personally wouldnt just do a LT4 upgrade, If I had an LT1 I would want more then that for that much work.
Well, goals, hmm, to beat my fathers old C3 Corvette -71 454 LS6 with doug nash 5-speed manual, and he said that these engines(cars) are to modern to go fast with. Computerised junk he said .
So he can not tell me what i should buy. He ran an 11.03 "back in the days" of 1984. So that is my goal.
What do you think i should do?
And does that LT4 Kit really make 425+ hp?
That kit is not going to make 425 just bolted in, it'll need a full headers and exhaust system to even make it close, and it still wont make 425.
All you need is to have the LT1 heads and intake ported and polished with the Hotcam and RR, this will make more power than the LT4 stuff in bolt-on form.
Run a search for Nathan Plemons, he has similar mods and full dyno results for everything in his signature.
If you want to run 11 flat then you're gonna have to do more than heads/cam. If you want to even be close to 11s, install some 4.10 gears, ported and polished AFR or Trick Flow or some other brand heads, an agressive cam, re-work the intake, long tubes, full exhaust... you have alot of work to do. 11 seconds is FAST!
Hello again, yes I know it is fast, but I hafto be faster than my old man so what can you do?
Sure I will hafto take the whole engine apart and balance it or replace it and so on. On the other hand, we have about 7months of winter where I live so I sure got the time.
What parts should I be getting then?, heads, cam, pistons, headers, exhaust, supercharger??!
You dont need to buy any heads or intake manifolds, you merely need porting of the stockers. So you can use people like MORE Performance to do the portwork.
The only things you need to buy are the LT4 hotcam kit and the longtube headers, then whatever catback system you like based on sound preference.
Dont go buying pistons, rods, etc or a SC until well after youve decided to dig into the motor. You have to be patient and make up a plan, then stick to it (barring repairs).
Yes, you can trust More Performance. They have done some very nice work on several Vettes in our club. Mike, the owner, was a NASCAR engine builder and decided to go public with his talents. The shop is super clean and the work is right on the mark. Those horsepower ratings were taken from his dyno and are crank horsepower numbers.
I totally agree with Vader when it comes to building a plan before you buy anything. Remember, buy things that are proven to work together. That's why it is better to buy a package. Do you have a good machine shop over there? Have your block bored and go with a stroker.
I, too, thought it would be a good idea to go with the GM LT1 to LT4 kit. That way if I wanted to, I could replace everything so the numbers matched. But, this won't give you your desired 425 at the wheels. If money is not an obstacle, go with a top end package and look at a Pro Charger supercharger. But match the cam to the blower.
Here we go again... This LT1/LT4 kit was tested @425-429hp at the crank With long tube headers 52mm throttlebody and a custom chip.
If you port your LT1 heads you can get them to folw a little better than the LT4 but you could always port the LT4s in the futre. Plus you get the improved valves with the Lt4 heads. My guess is that all engines are a litte different but If this package was proven to be betwen 425/429 hp Anyone should get at least 400+ at the crank
IMO if you are trying to beat a car running low 11's , you need more then a 350 hotcam motor. You could probably do the upper engine upgrade, ie LT4 heads, hotcam kit, headers, etc, and a big shot of Nitrous, but the pistons wont last long.
