I did do some research but wanted to input on this topic all the others are read only.
How much torque would be lost on lower end and how streetable is it?
Would a zz4 be a replacement for the stock l98 cam and would you have to change the cam gear to use it with the didtributor?
I will also port the base manifold and maybe even siamese it seem that is halps out alot and port and polish my heads would that help out with engine breathing and lower torque loss?
Also what spring should I run and what rr's should be used? Would it also pass CA smog with 1.6 rr's or stick with 1.5 rr?
what costs would be involved as far as upgrading the valve train and chaging the studs to 7/16.
I just wanted to go ahead and do this now that I'm here and work everything else slowly.
I have a ZZ4 cam in my 87. I dont think you will notice any loss on bottom end. I did heads/cam/intake. Hoping to lose bottom and gain top end. Only lost 1/10 et on my 60 ft. and gained quite a bit up high.
Got the ZZ4 from a forum member for $85. A good deal. Very streetable. The dist. gear is compatable. Cant really comment on springs and stuff as It was part of the head package.
I dont think you will pass smog unless you had a really good chip. Someone else may help in that area.
LT4 springs would work fine with the ZZ4 cam, but only if you are running the 1.5 rockers, and can be had for pretty cheap. The 1.6 rockers would give too much lift for those springs.
