Default O2 question

I found the clip on my O2 sensor is broken and must've come loose
off of the connector somehow. No check engine light though.
Check engine light circuit working ok.. Code 12 only.
Does this mean my car is always running in open loop?
She is running a tad rich...
Anyone run into this before?
Havent had time to dig into the helms manual , wanted to
get your side first... Thanks..

OK, let me see if I get this right.

The locking clip on the O2 sensor connection is broken. If the connector was still connected, it should have worked OK. IF the connector was NOT connected, you should have gotten a Service Engine Soon light and a code associated with the O2 sensor. The code 12 means all is well. And yes, with the O2 sensor wire unconnected, it is in open loop and it will run rich.

NAPA sells the release tool, new single wire connectors called Weather Pac 10 terminals. You can buy the appropriate piece, reconnect and test drive. You could also check the metal connectors for corrosion, plug in the plastic ends and use tape as the locking mechanism. Not as good, but I've done it before.

Good luck.

You can also put a zip-tie around the connector length-wise and it can't come apart. No worries.

Thx all, I actually had time to dig into the manual and run a couple of tests..
I ran the car to operating temp and of course ran the engine at 1200 rpm
for more than a minute and the check engine light did come on. I then
reconnected O2 and then started her back up again. From there I
entered service mode and confirmed light was flashing about once a
second. I guess I had to run it for longer than I was...

All is good now, easy fix... Thanks for the input..
