Are burnouts dangerously hard on the drivetrain?
Especially considering a D36?
Can I get away with it without breaking stuff?

My opinion is not really,.... the problem comes from having to much traction and power for your drivetrian. A burnout is purposely a less traction/stress type of situation. Like anything else, burnouts in moderation wont hurt.

Breaking stuff is inevitable if you are gonna beat it...
Vettes are problematic enough, dont bring this on your self....
Unless you like to spend more time under it than in it..
I dont beat mine...my POV anyway...

I seen the saddest thing the other day...
a Millenium Yellow C5, leaving the carshow, TRIED to do a burnout. I now feel more lame to be a corvette owner because of this guy. If you're going to do a burnout, then MAKE SOME SMOKE!!!! I couldn't even HEAR his car! I assume it was stock, and he didn't know what the heck TRACTION CONTROL is. When I do a burnout, I go through all three gears. Only stress o n the car, is on the rear brakes (if you don't have a linelock)

As long as the tires are spinning, it isn't doing as much damage. But as stated above sticky tires will make a difference, but you will know th esecond your tires break loose or not.
I think not driving you car does more harm than burnouts.
Since we are on the subject.....................Enjoy!

Have never done one of them in my life
If everything is right, you will not have a problem, except needing to replace the rear tires sooner.
Now light'em up

Re: Are burnouts dangerously hard on the drivetrain? (smallblock)
The dana is a very good rear end, and is quite reliable with stocker rubber... I don't recall it being a problem with the guys that had em and were running stockers before me...
I used to swap the vette rears into other cars (as well as 9 inch and dana60's)
The vette rears are all still going strong as far as I know.
Don't give it much of a thought Buddy... and it ain't gonna kill your car unless there's something wrong with it already (u-joints for example)... then when the tires do hook up something can pop... but it would have broken anyway at a later time because the part needed to be replaced.
However you will be buying a couple of tires more frequently...
But SO WHAT...
The feeling of the car sliding forward, listing a little to the right, as your foot pushes itself to the bottom of the carpetpad... is enough of a jolly all in itself to throw some pocket change in a jar every day you do it for the "Tire Fund"...
We are able to plan our expences aren't we...

Burnouts, i think put a lot of stress on clutch, tranny, rear differential, U-joints. Love to see other ppl do burnouts. I like to let the rear end loose a little once in a while but i wouldn`t go thru the three gears burning rubber not mentioning the fact that if you miss a gear...here goes the syncro and $5000. I think the question is "can you afford" possible consequences?...just like anything else in life.
