Default Now THAT is service.....

Ordered a set of gears 3.73s from Toms, some new Hoosier 28x10x15 slicks from Summit to complete my rear setup that I have out.

These items were ordered last week, in addition I found a stub axle that had some damaged u-joint bolt threads, which turned out being inrepairable. I might have been able to jerry-rig it, but that is not something I wanted to do. You know when you do it, it will nag at you and eventually end up failing. So I was about to drop some cash on a new one, when on one of ou mailing lists of some guys from here I dropped the bad news. Ralph, said that he had an extra set laying around that was damaged in his last rear explosion and they would be OK for me since I don't use the E-clip anymore. So he mailed them out on Friday, and I just got them today. Thanks a million Ralph.

I was all excited to get out this Saturday, with all the new equipment/new alignment on the car. However, when I checked the tracking number for the gears which I expected today/tomorrow at the latest, friggin UPS (sorry Mojo) had mis-routed the package and it traveled from the midwest clear back to California There goes another weekend of racing down the tubes.

I called UPS to complain, that got me a lady that could barely speak english that did nothing.

I figured I could re-buy the gears and have them overnighted or second dayed to me if I was really addicted and could not go another weekend without loosing my sanity. So wanna guess what I did?

I called Toms Differentials and explained to the guy my situation. He was madder than I was I think. He said that he would get to the bottom of it, and get me my parts by Thursday come hell or high water! I explained what I ordered, and he said they had everything in stock. Said he would call me back in 20 and let me know how it was going to play out. I told him to leave me a message, as I was going to be in a meeting all afternoon with my engineers.

Got out of the meeting at 4pm, checked my messages, and he said that he made UPS pay for the second day shipping, and they re-routed the orignal package back to him. So I did not even have to go through the hassle of sending the gears back, and I will have my stuff in time to get it back together thursday and get out with Corky and Jim Saturday. Barring any catastrophies

But that is what I call excellant sevice on the part of Tom's Differentials! Not often you find service like that nowday! Sadly its becoming the exception, rather than the norm.

Just wanted to share my little victory with you guys!

Now pray I get them this time when expected! Mojo, pull some strings for me, and get them here tomorrow so I can get a head start!

The true measure of a company's customer service isn't particularly in the daily taking care of business. Both Tom's and UPS are to be commended for their problem solving. Tom's, for caring and raising Hell over a mistake beyond their control and UPS, for making it right. You were lucky to be dealing worth two conscientious companies. That's once in a row.

RACE ON!!!

for Tom's - haven't had the pleasure dealing with them (yet) but they sure sound like the place to shop. As for UPS, while they ended up doing great in the end, they did it for a business **NOT** an individual - the buyer got squat on his first attempt at resolution... so I guess I'd say nice job UPS - but not great... should have made it right on their own. I had the exact same thing happen to me (improper routing) and got no satisfaction at all.

Sorry to hear about the problems Jessie....I've been waiting to hear some big numbers from your Beast. I agree about Toms...first heard of them in the '60s. They used to set up Don Gartlis diffs, and do Dana 60 set-ups for IRS Stingrays. Good luck!

Had a similar experience with a set of rings I ordered from Summit. FedEx got them within 50 miles of my home in the bay area then sent them to North Carolina. The FedEx lady I got hold of was great and got them overnited to me from the east coast. Sure can get a fellow pissed though. :mad

NICE! That's really good to hear about Tom's, because I'm going to be ordering my posi for my truck from them very soon. From the catalog, they looked a LITTLE shady, but if you say they're good, then I believe it
Here comes two burned rubber patches!!

Jesse, if you aren't using the inner e-clips, how are you retaining the stub axles ?

I have the spool drilled and tapped to accept a 7/16" grade 8 bolt. The end of the bolt is when turned down to the root diameter. The stub axles are drilled to ~1/2" to accept the turned down bolt which acts a a locator and a set screw. Ran it the one weekend like that and took it all apart for inspection....everything looks great.

That is when I decided I might as well put 3.73s in it while it was out. And I saw the u-joint bolt threads boogered up.

Should have it back together tomorrow night....

Anyone know the pinion bearing TIMKEN # off the top of their head. I NEED to make sure the bearing house here has one for tomorrow.

Thanks!

Jesse
