Please help! Engine starts running rough then quits when approaching coolant temp of 193 degrees. Dies, then will restart for 1 second then dies. After about 3 minutes, it will start and run. When temp gets to around 200, engine runs fine.
NO CODES......
I've replaced the OPTI. No Change.
I've replaced the oil temp sender. No Change.
I've replaced the ECM. No Change.
Any suggestions?
Re: LT1 Engine Quits for no reason - HELP! (bogus)
Coolant temp seems to be fine as I get appropriate readings from both the control panel and the scan tool. Coil appears to be good because it works great under load.
My next step is the coil driver. I don't know what else to try.
I've been working on this for months now.
thanks
Re: LT1 Engine Quits for no reason - HELP! (phoenix86)
It could be the spark control module but they usually quit after getting to a certain temperature and stay quit until they cool down. When it won't restart, check for spark, fuel pressure, and fuel injector pulses.
Makes sense. If its the ignition coil driver (module), one would think it would fail on increasing temperature and stay failed until the temperature came down. Thanks for the suggestion on the restart, but the engine actually starts and runs for about 1-5 seconds on the restart, or runs rough then quits. So checking for fuel pressure, spark, pulse width becomes very difficult.
I ordered a new ignition coil driver today. This is exasperating as I have been throwing parts at the problem.
thanks again

I had a similar problem awhile back. Check the 2 piece connector that plugs into your coil. The pink wire letter "B" on the connector was frayed inside my connector and would work intermittently. This wire is the primary voltage wire coming out of "coil fuse 25" on the passenger side fuse panel. It took me nearly a day of troubleshooting to find it since it would work on and off. Good luck, hope this might help you.
