Am I going into closed loop ????
Had some trouble with car running rough on way home from recent car show, setting check engine light, losing mileage. Got home and it read a code 45. Changed back to stock MAF from a descreened & definned MAF I had bought earlier in spring.
Mileage came back to 21-24 mpg cruising at 66mph, but with paperclip shorting A & B terminals, and crusing steady speed, could only get check engine light to flash every 2.5 seconds = open loop.
ECM has a chip that was burned in 1991 by someone.
How do I get to closed loop? Would O2 sensor need replacement?
It sounds as if your MAF is going bad...
a quick test is disconnect the MAF and start up the engine see if it runs smooth... cances are it will thus giving you the answer.. if you replace the MAF do the relay also as I recall it is near the battery...
I had a 87 a 89 95 and a 96.. both the 87 and 89 required the Maf being replaced while I owned them...
The maf controls the air fuel mixture, so obviosly if it is acting p the car will run spiratic and try to die run rough etc.
Disconnecting the MAF will set a coade but I would venture to say it will run like a kitten...
