Default quick procharger question

i've been looking into getting an ATI procharger kit for a while now. i've talked to several dealers, and still don't understand this. i'm interested in either the P600B intercooled kit, or the D1 intercooled kit. right now, internally my 86 l98 is stock, but i'd like to build it up within a couple years.

i was going to just go with a P600B, but after telling several dealers this, they say that with a stock L98 i can get the D1 kit and turn down the boost to 10 psi for now and be ok till i build the engine, and then increase the boost to 12+. OR i can get the P600B and run 8-10psi for now, and increase it to 12psi later after a motor rebuild.

so which one should i get? i'd rather get the D1 kit, but is more modifications required to install it? will 10 psi be too much for a internally stock l98? i've heard that you just need forged pistons to be able to safely run higher boost. is this true?

Go with the D-1...if you decide to build a 383 later the p600b will be too small. 8 lbs will be fine if you buy the kit from procharger and yes the hypertech pistons are your weak point..........at 10 psi boost with the hypertech pistons you'll be on the edge ...but it has been done before..right Krivera.

I think you're going to be disappointed with the P600B if you ever want to up the boost some day, or make more HP....and you WILL! The D1 will be good for a lot of HP down the road. However, I think 10psi is too much for your stock engine. You'll be on the edge of detonation, not to mention breaking ring lands.

What I would do if I were you, is spend your money on a rebuild instead of the kit.

Here's why:

You could get your motor bored, stroked, and forged for about the same price, probably a little more, but it will make JUST as much HP as a stock engine with a blower. And if built right, be more reliable and have more low end torque.

it will be worth it, because if you go with a lower compression rebuilt (9:1 or 8.5:1) you could buy the blower down the road for the rebuilt engine, up the boost and make about 750HP to the wheels with the D1.

Do it right!

well i feel the same way i would run a D-1 with lets say 6-8 psi on the stock motor and then when you want to really have fun run an all forged internal like i got and then run the psi at 11-15!!!!!

My motor is a 383 with the eagle forged rotating assembley and it runs great and trust me i run the heck out of my damn car! but keep in mind i am able to run more boost because i am at 6000feet above sea level!

So all in all i would say if you wanted to stay stock run a P600B but if you are going to get crazy later then run the D-1!!!!

Also i am making 11psi on a 6-rib belt! but i did create a belt tensioner that i have not had any problems with..but i did try to run a 15# pulley and i did get some slippage! so i think i makes the 6-rib out!
