Default Ideas for ditching the Computer?

Hello all. New member here. I've been looking through the posts for the last few days and havn't been able to find the info I'm looking for. I have an 84 (red headed step child apparently) Corvette. I'm interested in your guys ideas and input towards my plan.

Besides the major engine mods like dropping the crossfire injection for a carb and all the normal chevy small block mods, I'd like to completely remove the computer. I have read that this will cripple the transmission. Any advice before I go to a turbo 350 or 400 would be appreciated. I really want to keep the 700R4 for the overdrive.

Also, after I pull the computer stuff, I'm thinking of fabricating an entirely new analog instrument panel instead of this junky flashing LCD thing. There's plenty of room for four 2.5 inch gauges in the center driver info thing (if you count the extra space for the idiot lights) and more than enough room for a speedo and tach where the digi stuff is. Has anyone attempted this mod yet? I can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere.

Thanks for any advice.

The only thing that's controlled by the computer is the torque conv lockup, nothing else.

If you are keeping the 84 700r4 - you better consider rebuilding. There are quite a few updates available to build a strong dependable tranny.

I am running a non-lockup converter and the tranny is not hooked up to my computer. Whomever you are talking to is thinking about the newer tranny that is electronic.

It sounds to me that you've started with the wrong car.
