While racing a hill climb last weekend, I blew the throw out bearing to little bits in my 86', 383 c.i. coupe. I did the 4+3 convertion about two years ago and never had a problem. All the parts used were new, (no remanufactured) and up till that time no problems. I was wondering what other people with the same set up are using for clutch disks (manufacture)? Has antone else had this problem?
Thanks,
Joe
I did the same swap several months ago on my 84...I used a standard GM LT1\4 Clutch, pressure plate and TO bearing...keeping my 4+3 FW...other then a moderate gargle sound under heavy load...I have yet to have an issue...then again- I am not throwing your HP numbers at it either!

Did you change to the ZR1 Pivot Stud or use the McLeod TOB?

The clutch disc was from TPIS, I forget what brand they use, with their pivot stud. The pressure plate and throw out bearing was a stock GM unit. I'm jumping the gun because I don't know how much damage was done. I have the trans out but the bell housing and clutch assembly is still in. I'm going on what I see through the bell housing hole (and the amount of smoke this thing made as the clutch slipped going up the hill). I have to pull the rest down, but am thinking about a 900 series RAM clutch. Has anyone used this, and how do you feel about it?
Thanks,
Joe
