Alrighty...I need to start out by congratulating everyone in this forum because as a new Vette owner (bought it 2 days before we found out we were 'expecting'), I've learned more than I could have ever hoped about the C4 from you.
Next, I have a mystery component that I can only describe as a 'vacuum diaphram' thingy that needs to be replaced. For some reason it appears that it got hot or deteriorated somehow. Basically, there's no way this thing is maintaining vacuum based off of the looks of the connections.
It's on the right-hand side of the intake near the injector area and looks like it's about the size of about 6 quarters stacked together and has 3 ports on it for vacuum lines. (I'd add the pic, but I can't get the image function to work here). If anyone's interested in the pic, reply with your email...
Could someone tell me:
1) What this is
2) What part number so I can replace it
3) If we can't figure out what it is, I'm going to try to replace it with a passive 'T' connector to see if that fixes it.
I looked in your profile to find the year of your Vette, which is listed as a 1996. When asking questions please include your year, others are more likely to answer when they dont have to search. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question though- I have an 85 which is very different. Welcome to the Forum.
This is what I do:
Go to your local Chevy dealer and visit the Parts Dept.
They will have an exploded view of the components for the top of the engine. Just point out what you need.
Buy the part.
Yes it is. Spent about 10 minutes and $7 at the Chevy parts counter to find it. I'm hoping this is why I'm unable to get anything out of the upper vents in the car. Defrost & floor work just fine, but nothing out the uppers.
The old one looks like it went through a war compared to this new part. Must be the squirrels chewing on it at night.
