Easy question, how do the 1996 shop manuals work as a set???
As I understand it you need the primary 1994 maunual and the 1996 supplement? Is this right? I am trying to buy a set on ebay, but I am a bit confused on how the sets work together... thanks
Most of the descriptions on eBay seem to be copied form the same poorly written one. They misquote the two manuals as sounding like they have the same information. That is not true. The two manuals are meant to be a set covering the entire car. I wish people would stop posting it that way there.
Book 1 has everything in it except engine/transmission and engine controls/DTC's. Book 2 has those in it. You need both. These are stand alone books. Bought mine from Helms.
The larger book of the set covers the engine, drivetrain, body and the other systems like brakes and cooling. The second book covers emissoins, driveability and electrical diagnosis.
My 92 book set had a small paper supplement titled "Section 6 Engine General Information and Mechanical Diagnosis Service Manual Supplement".
If you are not sure exactly what is being offered on eBay, you should consider just getting a brand new set for your year from Helm. You'll have a brand new book with the specific manuals for your car.

From the covers of mine:
"GMP/96-Y-1 Includes all except: Engine and Transmission"
"GMP/96-Y-2 Includes: Engine and Transmission"
I can scan the covers and post if you'd like...
EDIT: The books reference each other on certain issues so you really need both...

Re: C4 Service Manuals??? (NC LT4)
Check out factoryautomanuals.com I bought my 96 set from them for $70 and saved $50 off Helm's prices, and didn't have the ebay aggravation of maybe losing a set that goes too high in price at the end...
The manuals are used but always in good condition unless noted...
For 1996, there are two volumes... One for engine and trans, and the other for body, wiring, and other stuff...

That's who I got mine from too. Unfortunately, I just checked and they're out of stock on the 96...
