I feel like cleaning my TB on my car since it hasn't been cleaned in over 4 years, but the car hasn't run much in the last 4 years either... I think I put maybe 10 000 miles on it. (only driven during summer)
I'm wondering if I really have to take the TB all apart to clean it of it I can just shoot some TB in it directly and clean it with a brush wile holding the butterfly open?
You'll want to clean the IAC passage and pintel also. You'll need a big adjustable wrench to get the IAC out. There isn't really much to taking it apart (once it's off the plenum). Some torx screws on top and 6 or 7 on the bottom coolant/air channels. You might want to have a gasket set available in case you damage one in the process. I did not go so far as to take the butterfly out, just the cleaned both sides.
