Default Transmission guru's step inside.

I just got a remanufactured transmission and it's a little different then the transmission I took out. (which may, or may not be the original) Can someone tell me which is the correct transmission for a 91 corvette?

Here is a pic of the one I took out...

The one I recieved from the re-man company has a 53 in place of the 11 and 8673598 instead of 8679707.

Here is a pic of the output shafts side-by-side.

The shaft in my hand appears larger only because it's a little closer. They both fit in the driveshaft yoke.

Any help would be much appreciated.

More than likely this is a f-body or blaser trans. Most reman companies use what they have available and put a corvette tailshaft. Look at the bottom of the trand behind the pan. If you see 2 threaded mounting holes in case it is a non vette trans. These holes are for the trans mount that our cars do not use.All c-4 trans cases did not have these holes drilled or tapped.

Just went out and checked, it does have the transmission mount holes. Does it have the correct tailshaft though? I know the Corvette tailshaft is a little shorter but I've heard the F-body shaft may work depending on which end of production tolerences chassis and driveshaft are in. It was prety tight coming out so if the new one has the F-body tailshaft it's not going back in. If the old one had the F-body shaft and the new one is the correct corvette shaft I should be OK. Which one is which?

In f-body trans in my car at one time. I did not5 have any problems. I assume that the output shaft in mine was the f-body shaft. Hopefully a real trans stuff knower will chime in.

PeteK has some good advice. The trans I have is from an 85 full size 2WD truck

I've done some research on the subject, it is my understanding that anything later than 84 has a 30 spline input shaft, and output shafts have the same spline count, just different lengths, the vette being shorter by (don't quote me on this) ~1 3/4". I have not had any problems at all.

There are other differences, most importantly to some is the ability to upshift from 3rd to OD at WOT. Unfortunately I have yet to find that ability useful and it isn't very hard to regain that ability should you desire.

Thank guys. I guess I'll go get buisy on installing it. I'm still curious what both of these output shaft came from though.
Here is the cover of a rebuild manual with a tailshaft ID guide.
It looks to me like neither shaft matches any of the illustrations.
